How to join in Tata Institute of Social Sciences for higher studies?

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) trace back its origin to the establishment of Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work in 1936. TISS idealizes its vision to furnish excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge. The institution has been the wellspring to unite scholars and practitioners from various backgrounds, creating an interdisciplinary teaching and research programme combined with field action to address the most critical current and emerging issues of the nation.

Programmes under Tata Institute of Social Sciences

Tata Institute of Social Sciences as an esteemed platform provides various teaching programmes such as masters, bachelors, doctoral programme, short-time programme, online programme, open and distance learning (ODL) programmes. In order to pursue, any of the above programmes the first requirement is to crack the entrance. The entrance is designed into various stages and each stage analyzes a distinct calibre of the scholar. The exam can be cracked easily if prepared well in advance. The difficulty level of this exam ranges from easy to moderate. Furthermore, the M.A. in Human Resource & Labour Management programmer offered by this esteemed institute is equivalent to the MBA degrees offered by top business schools of the country.

TISS Entrance exam

TISS-BAT 

TISS-BAT is the entrance exam for BASS (Bachelors in Social Science) Programme. Due to the threat of Covid-19, several changes were made in the online-based test in 2020 with 40 objective type multiple choice questions (MCQ) with the added consideration of boards results. The exam was conducted through a Remote Proctoring Assessment (RPA) mode. The exam is designed to be excess able either through a computer or a smartphone without negative marking.

TISS-NET 

TISS-NET is a computer-based test with 100 objective type multiple choice questions (MCQ) for the M.A. Programmes in Tata Institute of Social Sciences.  Aspirants with basic knowledge of English Proficiency, Mathematics and Logical Reasoning and General Awareness appear for TISS-NET.  Usually, aspirants feel insecure due to weightage of GK but a planned and systemic study of the general awareness and current affairs makes it much easier than how it is perceived. Aspirants applying or single or multiple programmes have to attend only one test and the TISS-NET score will be valid for all the programmes applied for. PIT/PI which is the next phase of the exam is programme specific and might have variations across different programmes. However, for the entrance to be held in 20th February 2021 PIT/PI has been replaced by TISSPAT and online interview.

TISS Management Aptitude Test

Aspirants applying for MA (HRM&LR) and/or MA (ODCL) programmes are required to appear for the TISS Management Aptitude Test (TISS-MAT) in addition to the TISS-NET Examination. The TISS Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is conducted immediately after the TISS-NET examination. TISS-MAT Score will be aggregated with the score of PIT and PI in the following manner to arrive at the final score for selection. The next stage comprising of Short-listing candidates for the second round of selection. (PIT and PI) is done based on the merit list created on the criteria of the online test (cut-off marks to be decided later by the Institute).

If one needs an overall assessment of the institute, one can rest assured that there is no denying on the fact that Tata Institute of Social Sciences is one of the most prestigious institutes in the field of social sciences with the history of becoming the first social work institute in Asia. The long list of reputed alumnus validates its purpose and objective. The students of the institutes are mostly placed in NGOs, civil societies, think tanks and CSRs; and also prepares well for further academic pursuits.
