India’s census system will be digital. The country will be digitally censused from next time. The announcement was made by Indian Home Minister Amit Shah in Assam on May 9, 2022. The home minister said the country’s census system will be entirely paperless.
Explaining the e-census method, Amit Shah said that by 2024, the birth and death data of all the people of the country will be collected simultaneously. In this method government employees do not visit door to door and count people.
State-of-the-art methods will be used to make e census seamless. Such modern methods have been used as census plays a big role in the implementation of the country’s financial and other plans. It is possible to know the living standards of the marginal people including remote areas of the country only through census.
How will e-census work?
Explaining the e-census method, Amit Shah said that by 2024, the birth and death data of all the people of the country will be collected simultaneously. It will update the digital census. It has to be registered in the census as soon as a child is born. Similarly as soon as he turns 18, he will be updated to the voters’ list accordingly. Citizens can update themselves even if they change their accommodation. Once this method is introduced, citizens will be able to sit their accounts at home in the census. A software for this will be launched soon.
