Prasoon Joshi honoured with Indian Film Personality of the Year at 52nd IFFI

Renowned lyricist and creative writer Prasoon Joshi has presented ‘Indian Film Personality of the Year’ award at the Closing Ceremony of the 52nd International Film Festival of India in Goa. The award was conferred on him by the Minister for Information & Broadcasting Anurag Thakur, for his contribution to cinema, popular culture and socially significant artistic work.

After receiving the award Prasoon Joshi dedicated the award to his hometown Almora in Uttarkahand. In the speech he said, “I come from a small town of Almora. It is very hard for someone coming from a small town to get exposure to the world of cinema. I dedicate this award to the mountains of Uttarakhand where I drew my inspiration from.”

About Prasoon Joshi:

Prasoon Joshi is an Indian poet, writer, lyricist, screenwriter. Apart from these he is a well known communication specialist and marketer. He was born in 16 September, 1971 in Almora in Uttarakhand.

Joshi entered Indian cinema as a lyricist in 2001 with Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lajja. Since then he has been a part of films like Taare Zameen Par, Rang De Basanti, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Neerja and Manikarnika, Delhi 6 and many more. In 2006 Prasoon Joshi also became a dialogue writer with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s film Rang De Basanti.

For the Hindi movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Prasoon Joshi received the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award three times, in 2007 and 2008 and again in 2014. He was also awarded the National Film Award for Best Lyrics twice, for Taare Zameen Par (2007), and Chittagong (2013).

In 2015 Prasoon Joshi was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India for his contributions towards the field of Arts, Literature and Advertising. He was appointed as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification on 11 August 2017.

Prasoon Joshi is an internationally acclaimed advertising professional. He started his career with Ogilvy & Mather in Delhi. In just 10 years he was promoted and posted as the Executive Creative Director in Mumbai office of the company. In 2002, he joined McCann-Erickson as Executive Vice-President and National Creative Director.

Joshi is currently the Asia-Pacific Chairman of one of the world’s largest advertising companies, McCann Worldgroup. He has also won coveted international awards including Golden Lions at Cannes and Young Global leader by the World Economic Forum.
