Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Amit Shah, on October 31, 2021 has launched ‘Dairy Sahakar’ scheme, a welfare scheme for dairy producers at Anand in Gujarat. The Scheme will be implemented by National Cooperative Development Corporation ( NCDC) under the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India. It has been launched with a total investment of Rs 5000 crore.

The main objective of the Dairy Sahakar scheme is to encourage and supplement the ongoing efforts to strengthen the dairy sector in India, to help double the income of farmers. It will also realize the vision “from cooperation to prosperity”. Under this scheme, NCDC will provide financial support to eligible cooperatives to work like bovine development, milk procurement, processing, quality assurance, value addition, branding, packaging, marketing, transportation, and storage of milk and milk products, export of dairy products etc.

The scheme has launched in a function organized by Amul on the occasion of its 75th Foundation Year. Founded in 1946 in Anand, Gujarat, Amul played a very important role in india’s white revolution. Amul also contributes significantly to India becoming the world’s largest dairy producer. It is run by a cooperative society called Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF). GCMMF is a joint-owned company of 3.6 million milk producers in Gujarat, and is the top body of 13 district milk unions spread across 13,000 villages in Gujarat.
