The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is an all India pre-medical entrance test for students who aspire to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS) and similar AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc.) courses in government and private institutions in India and as well as for those who want to pursue primary medical courses abroad. NEET(UG) was previously known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT). The All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and different pre-medical exams were replaced by NEET-UG exam conducted by states and various medical colleges. In this year the process of NEET 2021 will be started very soon.
The NEET exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and submits the results to the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and State Counselling Authorities for the seat allocation of qualified students. It is a single entrance test for admissions in more than 66,000 MBBS and BDS seats all over India.
After the regulation of NMC Act 2019 in September 2019, NEET-UG became the common all India entrance test for admissions to medical colleges in India including the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER).
