Assam is one of eight North-Eastern states of India. The state shares its boundary with Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh to the north; Nagaland and Manipur to the east; Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram and Bangladesh to the south; and West Bengal to the west. Assam comprises of two river valley i.e. Brahmaputra valley from east towards west and Barak valley in the southern most part and hills areas of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district in the central part. The monkey species was brought into attention by renowned environmentalist Edward Pritchard Gee in 1950. So, the monkey is also known as Gee’s golden langur internationally.
